Dr. Woodworth’s Welcome for 2nd Semester
Welcome back, GCS family!
Happy New Year and welcome back for the 2nd semester of the 2018-2019 school year! Whether you are a GCS employee, student, or family member, we consider you a part of our GCS family. With this New Year’s letter, I would like to highlight a few items from the 1st semester and provide a brief look ahead.
During the 1st semester, we had many students and staff members recognized for excellence, including: GHS junior Joseph Narayan, chosen to serve a two-year term on the Indiana Department of Education Student Advisory Council; GMS counselor Jan Desmarais-Morse, named an American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Counselor of the Year finalist; Elementary school teachers and students, recognized for the creative, innovative work they are doing in the educational pathways of New Tech, IB, Dual Language Immersion, C.L.A.S.S., and Expeditionary Learning; GHS seniors Felix Perez Diener and Katie Shirk, named National Merit Semifinalists and Jonathan Snyder, named a National Merit Commended Student; GHS athletes, recognized by other schools and officials for exemplary sportsmanship; GMS math teacher Terri Hussey, named to the “top ten” for Indiana Teacher of the Year; and finally, Jane Troup, who with our sincere appreciation and thanks, ended her service on the GCS School Board after 24 years.
In the 1st semester, we did a lot planning for the addition to be built at GHS and for the new Intermediate School. We are pleased with the progress we have made on the plans for both buildings, and trust that the input from teachers and architects will lead to optimal utilization of the buildings. We will continue to post construction updates on the GCS website at https://www.goshenschools.org/public-records/building-plans
As we look ahead to the 2nd semester, we anticipate that students will complete projects, perform in concerts, make progress toward their educational goals, and take field trips to explore places near and far. And at the end of the school year, we know that GHS will graduate a class of students who are well-prepared for work, further education, voluntary service, apprenticeships, military service, or whatever they choose to do. We will miss the class of 2019, but we are confident that they will be prepared for the future!
Thank you for your continued involvement, collaboration, and investment in our schools! It is the support of parents and community members that enables us to provide an excellent education for Goshen students and ensures that every student will reach his or her fullest potential. Thank you for partnering with us!
Sincerely,
Dr. Diane Woodworth
