Goshen Middle School 6th Girls Volleyball Information 2018
1 – Skills Evaluation Night/Practice – On February 27, we will be holding skills evaluation/practice night so we can make teams as competitive as possible. All players will need to go home after school and return to GMS, ready to compete in the upper gym at 6:15pm. We will be finished at 7:45pm. Please pick your daughter up at the front of Goshen Middle School. If your athlete is unable to attend, they will need to set up another time to be evaluated. This must be setup before February 27. Contact Mrs. Yoder to make other arrangements.
2 – The first practice is March 1st, 2018 from 6:15-7:45pm in the lower gym. Enter and exit at front doors. The following weeks there will be two practices per week and games on Monday, Tuesday or Saturdays. Players must attend practice in order to be eligible to play in the entire match. If a player misses practice they will not play in the first game of the match. If a player misses two consecutive practices, they will not play in the first two games of the following match. All matches will consist of three games. Parents are responsible for transporting players to games and practices. Players must always be picked up no later then 10 minutes after the conclusion of practices.
3 – Practice and Game Attire – GMS physical education shirt or athletic tee shirt with sleeves, shorts/sweatpants/volleyball shorts and tennis shoes that tie.
4 – Jewelry – Leave your jewelry at home. There is to be NO jewelry worn during practice or games. We recommend waiting until after volleyball season has ended to get your ears pierced. You will be asked to remove your earrings before practicing or playing in a game.
5 – The program concludes March 19, 2018.
6 – This is considered an intramural program. However, each team has a coach and games are regulation in length with certified officials.
7 – There is no cost to the student and an athletic physical is not required.
8 – Admission Charge – There is an admission charge for games. Students – $2.00, Adults – $3.00 and Senior Citizens -$2.00.
9 – Practice/game schedule – All practices are one and a half hour in length. Students must be at school in order to attend practice. Please have rides here at the conclusion of practice. In the past, we have had coaches wait for as long as 40 minutes for parents to pick up their /student athlete. Your daughter will be given two warnings for late pickup. The third late pickup will result in your child being released from the team.We request that parents, friends, and siblings of players do not attend practice. Games will be approximately one hour in length and players are expected at the game no more than 20 minutes before each game.
10 – Jerseys – We will provide reversible jerseys for the players during games. Players are responsible for their own tee shirt, shorts, and shoes. Shoes must have shoelaces and be tied at all times during practices and games.
11 – Volleyballs – Goshen Middle School will provide volleyballs for practices and games. Players need to leave their personal volleyballs at home.
12 – Locker rooms – Locker rooms are not available for evening practices.
13 – Water bottles – Players need to provide their own water bottles if so desired.
14 – Behavioral concerns – Any student assigned ISS or OSS, participation in extra-curricular activity rules will be followed. Any student assigned to isolation, or suspended in or out of school will automatically be ineligible for participation in their next athletic contest. Students who are assigned ISS or OSS are not permitted to attend any athletic activity, including practice on the date(s) of the ISS or OSS.
15 – Athletes are expected to communicate with Mrs. Yoder or their coach if they will miss a practice. Communication regarding missing practice should take place before a practice is missed. After two unexcused absences student athletes will be removed from the team.
- First game will be March 6th. If teams seem out of balance there is the possibility of movement of players to another team. This will be determined by the coaches.
