6th Grade Boys Basketball Parent Information
Thank you for giving your son the opportunity to participate in our 6th grade basketball program. This is a brief informational letter to describe the 6th grade boy’s basketball program.
1 – Skills Evaluation – Tuesday, October 13, we will be having a skill evaluation so that we can make teams as competitive as possible. All players should be ready to compete in the lower gym at 6:30pm. We will be finished by 7:30pm. If your athlete is unable to attend, please contact Von Oxenrider at voxenrider@goshenschools.org
2 – All teams will practice Monday, October 26 from 6:30-7:30pm in the lower gym. Practice and game schedules will be distributed at the first practice. There are two practices per week and games are played on Saturday morning. Players must attend at least one practice per week in order to be eligible to play in the game on Saturday. Parents are responsible to transport players to games and practices. Players should arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to practice and must always be picked up no later then 10 minutes after the conclusion of practices.
3 – The program concludes on December 5th.
4 – This is considered an intramural program. However, each team has a coach and games are regulation in length with certified referees.
5 – There is no cost to the student and an athletic physical is not required. The student athlete and parent must complete the Concussion Signature Form (purple form) and return to the Athletic Office prior to October 13 to be eligible to particiapte in 6th grade boys basketball program.
6 – Admission Charge – There is an admission charge for the games that are played on Saturday mornings.
Students – $2.00
Adults – $3.00
Senior Citizens- (age 62) $2.00
7 – Practice/game schedule – All practices are one hour in length and students must be in school in order to attend practice. Please have rides here at the conclusion of practice. In the past, we have had coaches wait for as long as 40 minutes for parents to pick up their student athlete. Your son will be given two warnings for late pickup. The third late pickup will result in your child being released from the team. Also, parents, siblings of players, and friends of players will not be able to attend practice. Games will be approximately one hour in length and players are expected to arrive 10-15 minutes before game time.
8 – Jerseys – We will provide reversible jerseys for the players during games. Players are responsible for their own shorts and shoes. Shoes must have shoelaces that tie and be tied at all times during practices and games.
9 – Basketballs – Goshen Middle School will provide basketballs for practices and games. Players need to leave their personal basketballs at home.
10 – Locker rooms – Locker rooms will not be available to players during practices or during games.
11 – Water bottles – Players need to provide their own water bottles if so desired.
12 – Games results – Game results will be submitted to the Goshen News. Team scores and leading scores will be noted.
13 – Behavioral concerns – Any student assigned ISS or OSS, participation in extra-curricular activity rules will be followed, in addition, any student assigned to Friday School or isolation, or suspended in or out of school will automatically be ineligible for participation in their next athletic contest. Students who are assigned ISS or OSS are not permitted to attend any athletic activity, including practice on the date(s) of the ISS or OSS.
